Steam Gala

Steam Gala weekend; 18th and 19th May 2024.

Our railway gala is by far the busiest weekend of the year, with an intensive timetable of passenger and goods trains. All of our engines will be in action including our brand new steam engine Mr Hallworth. Expect double headed trains, frieght trains and wagon rides!

UPDATE – Visiting Engines Announced!

We are very excited to be hosting 3…yes 3 visting engines to this years event!

First up we have St. Egwin. Built by Exmoor Steam Railway the tender/tank loco is based at our sister attraction, The Valley Railway Adventure. We are very grateful to Steve Bell for allowing this loco to visit us for a third time. We really do love this one and can’t wait to have it running at Perrygrove once again.

Next, as no surprise to regular followers. we have Heywood loco “Katie” appearing with thanks to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Preservation Society Trust and the Ravenglass Railway Museum. This will be the first time in 10 years a Heywood Loco has run at Perrygrove and we are super excited to pair Katie with our traditional estate railway goods trains. We think we probably do estate railway goods trains better than any other 15″ gauge railway these days and this is sure to be a big draw at this event.

Sticking with the estate railway theme, we are also delighted to announce a surprise third visitor in the form of “Jack.” The loco was built in the 1950’s by Jack Lemmon-Burton for his estate railway in Sussex. That railway is long gone and the loco has been on display for many years at the Bredgar and Wormshill Light Railway. It is currently in the care of our friends at The Steam Workshop and is for sale. This is the first time it has run in public for many, many years and we hope it inspires someone to give it a loving home, (and maybe bring it to us again for future visits!)
