What is the Pirate Brick Trail?
Ship ahoy! A crew of 18 giant brick-built pirates — and a fair few of their salty friends — are taking over the woodland around Perrygrove Railway Adventure, our heritage narrow gauge line in the Forest of Dean. It’s a proper treasure hunt: some characters are right beside the path, close enough to pose with. Others can only be spotted from your seat on the train — so keep a look out as you ride, ye landlubbers.
The trail is included with your standard ticket. No extra charge, no separate booking.
When can you visit?
This is not a continuous twelve-day event — the trail is only up and running on Perrygrove Railway Adventure’s usual open days during this period. Please check carefully before you set sail:
Saturday 12 September — 10am–5pm
Sunday 13 September — 10am–5pm
Tuesday 15 September — 10am–3pm
Thursday 17 September — 10am–3pm
Saturday 19 September — 10am–5pm
Sunday 20 September — 10am–5pm

Not open Monday, Wednesday or Friday during this period. Gates open at 10am on every trail day.
More than just a Pirate Trail – a whole day at a heritage railway attraction
The Pirate Brick Trail runs alongside everything Perrygrove Railway Adventure is already known for as a family-run heritage railway in the Forest of Dean:
- The narrow gauge heritage railway — the heart of your visit. Unlimited rides all day on heritage carriages, a full return journey of around 30 minutes, hopping on and off at four stations along the way.
- Twilight Village — an indoor hide-and-seek village of five little houses linked by secret passages and staircases. Perfect whatever the weather.
- Treetop Adventure Trail — wooden treehouses, wobbly bridges and a slide back down, with views over the woods (and a wave to the train as it passes below).
- Foxy Hollow & Tunnel Maze — swings, den-building space, and a twisting network of colourful tunnels to wriggle through.
- Woodland walks — dog-friendly paths between stations, roughly 15 minutes end to end.

Platform café — hot drinks, pasties, sandwiches, cakes and soft-scoop local ice cream. Picnics are welcome outside at the picnic tables.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Pirate Brick Trail included in the ticket price?
Yes. The trail is included with standard admission to Perrygrove Railway Adventure — there’s no extra charge to see any of the models.
What dates is the trail open?
The trail is only running on six specific days: 12, 13, 15, 17, 19 and 20 September 2026. It is not open continuously across this period — Perrygrove Railway Adventure is closed on the Monday, Wednesday and Friday in between, and the trail is not accessible on those days.
What time does it open?
Gates open at 10am on every trail day. Weekend days (12/13 and 19/20 September) run until 5pm; the Tuesday and Thursday dates (15/17 September) run until 3pm.
Is it all pirates, or are there other characters too?
A bit of both! Alongside the Captain and his crew, you’ll find a Mermaid, a giant Shark and a few other salty sea dogs dotted around the trail — so there’s plenty to spot beyond the pirates themselves.
How many models are there, and can I see them all from the train?
Eighteen giant brick-built models are hidden around the site, including a Captain, a Mermaid, a giant Shark and a spinning Ship’s Wheel, among others. Some are viewing-only from the railway, while others are positioned along the walking paths so you can get up close and take photos.
Is Perrygrove Railway Adventure a real heritage railway?
Yes. Perrygrove is a family-run heritage narrow gauge railway in the Forest of Dean, with steam and diesel locomotives running on unlimited rides included in every ticket.
Is Perrygrove Railway Adventure dog friendly?
