Logo THE STORRS BRIDGE MINE WAGONS
The gauge of the railway at Storrs Bridge has always been described as 16" but may have been 400mm which is about 15 ¾ inches. The mine also had a battery electric locomotive by Greenwood and Batley, works no 2782 of 1957. It was delivered new on 20/3/57. Weighing in at 4 tons, it was quite a large loco for this type of operation, It appears to have arrived in kit form and was assembled underground. After closure of the mine it went to the 15 inch gauge Ravenglass & Eskdale railway and was brought into use with only a small amount of re-profiling of the flanges.

The Storrs Bridge wagons have flanges which have worn very thin, so they run quite well on our tracks despite their nominally wider gauge. These 5 wagons were the starting point for a collection of 400mm gauge equipment which now includes some original Deacuville track and turnouts. This gauge was used for portable and mine railways and equipment was made by several manufacturers. The pictures of these wagons are © Steve Bennett, who also supplied much of the above information and made the model shown here.
