Goods Train on the Perrygrove Railway ESTATE RAILWAY EXPERIENCE DAYS

The Perrygrove Estate Railway is fictitiously situated in the grounds of Heywood Hall – the family home of Lord and Lady Foppington-Smyth. Heywood Station receives goods and passengers for the Hall from all over the estate. The mainline railway serves the yard at Perrygrove station and forms the hub of the railway's activity. Oakiron Farm, Weatherall Mine, and Rookwood Sawmill are all on the railway network and keep the little line busy with goods traffic. There is occasional passenger traffic as well – often when Lady Foppington-Smyth goes to town. There has been unrest on the line recently and yesterday the Railway Controller walked out of the job. Lord Foppington is furious and is recruiting for a new team to run the line. If you think you and your friends are up to the challenge then come and have a go; but be warned, the departed controller has left things in a bit of a muddle – it may take some sorting out!

Our Estate Experience gives you and your team the chance to take on the roles of Driver, Shunter and Controller – operating the railway for a whole day.

Being the driver of one of our narrow gauge locos working goods and passenger traffic over the steeply graded Estate Line is a real challenge for any narrow gauge enthusiast. With 1 in 29 gradients, reverse curves, and ever changing scenery – this a stunning railway especially when viewed from the footplate.

So you think you’re good at shunting... Your job is to plan all of the moves in the yards to get your train together in as few moves as you can. (don’t put the explosives near the oil though!) You won't want to waste moves – your score depends upon it!

Try your hand at being the Controller – allocating loads to wagons, wagons to trains, dealing with extra traffic as it arises, and you may just have to drop everything you planned when Lady Foppington-Smyth summons her train to go to market!

Before the day begins you will need to fill in a simple Medical Questionnaire. Good eyesight (with glasses if necessary) and hearing are obviously important. You need to be fairly fit and able bodied to get on and off the engines and walk around the railway.

Lunch is included, and our tea pot has no bottom! Your friends and family are welcome to come and ride on the trains and explore the site – we only charge if they want lunch.

Your group's score will be added to our website leader board – keep track of how you did – come back to try and beat your friends score – return visit discounts!

Price based on 3 booking together as a group
£150 per person (includes VAT at 20%)
Lunch and refreshments included

We are happy to adapt the day to suit your group – get in touch to discuss the different options. Larger groups also welcome – try the Mega Estate Shunt!
